Today we have an interview with the amazing John Korff, founder of Korff Enterprises, a sports event and marketing company that organizes large-scale events such as triathlons, marathons, tennis and golf tournaments. He is also currently Director at Large on the United States Tennis Association Board of Directors. John has run over 140 marathons, seven 100-mile races and holds a record in the Empire State Building Run-Up. That’s a lot of running!

Healing Feet: How long have you been running? What got you started?
John Korff: 1968, I started running to lose weight for wrestling and realized I was a much better runner than a wrestler

HF: What keeps you motivated?
JK: Motivated to run?  Fitness

HF: Of course we’re all about keeping feet safe here at Healing Feet. What kind of foot or ankle injuries have you had? How did you deal with them?
JK: Bunion and a variety incidental injuries.  I do what Joe (Dr. Josef Geldwert) tells me to do.

HF:Do you now have any foot care tips to keep your feet injury-free?
JK: Stretch, ice, stretch, ice, stretch, ice.  When I have more than a pulled muscle I call Joe.  I don’t want to think something real will go away by itself.

HF: You have organized so many large-scale athletic events, including marathons and triathlons. What advice do you have for people who are taking part in their first marathon or triathlon?
JK: Develop a realistic training schedule and stick to it.  Don’t get ahead of your training and don’t get behind.  If that means you have to train thru a hangover then so be it.

HF: What’s the one thing every athlete should know?
JK: Sports are healthy.  Find something you can do and enjoy every day.

That’s a lot of useful advice for all athletes–thanks, John!
