5 Ways To Make Your Feet Look Better Today

Are your scratchy, dry feet sticking to your blankets at night? Does that red corn on your toe poke out awkwardly from your sandal strap? Do your nails look so dull and lifeless that their only hope is a new coat of nail polish? These are common complaints for summer feet, when people are starting to spend more time at the beach, the pool and roaming the town in sandals. Here are five simple ways to make your feet look prettier today. Soak Your Feet.

We agree with Texas Podiatrist Dr. Jeffrey Bowman who said, “As the weather warms, Epsom Salt can help your feet feel better, look better, even smell better.” Soaking in Epsom Salt can help with foot issues like arthritis, injury, inflammation and infection. The skin absorbs the magnesium sulfate to reduce swelling and improve circulation. Our runner friends often use foot soaks after a long, strenuous workout as well. Products like Dr. Teal’s Epsom Foot Soak combine the healing benefits of Epsom Salts, along with essential oils of eucalyptus and menthol. Exfoliate Rough Skin.

An exfoliation product can remove the dull, rough exterior layers of skin that are blocking the fresher, rejuvenated skin below. A foot scrub can alleviate some calluses and cracking along the back of your foot. Cracked heels are not just unsightly; they can be dangerous portals to developing an infection like athlete’s foot fungus or Staph! Peppermint and lavender are the more popular foot scrubs, but you can also try aloe for a cooling effect. Tackle Those Calluses and Corns.

Corns are typically caused by poorly fitting shoes that cause friction on the feet. You can tackle calluses with a pumice stone, buffer or battery-powered callus remover, but we do not recommend trying to address corns yourself. In the office, we can pare down the corn with special instruments or we can try a salicylic acid solution to kill off the hardened tissue for easy removal. There are also over-the-counter corn pads that might benefit you.

Use Nail Polish Sparingly.

People tend to over-do it with nail polish. Perhaps the yellowing of your nail is not due to toenail fungus — but to lack of oxygen! Podiatrists generally recommend painting your nails for a special occasion, but giving your nails a break in between events. Do not use polish remover more than once a week — and skip the acetone, which dries the nails out. A thin coat of clear polish can keep moisture in the nail. Consider Biotin supplements if your nails are particularly dry and brittle.

Moisturize.

Keeping the feet hydrated with natural oils and vitamins will keep your feet looking healthy all summer long.
