However, dry, flaky skin on the outermost edge of the heel can take a turn for the worse if they grow so deep there is pain and bleeding. Worse yet, cracked heels can be deadly in some cases, which is why New York podiatrists always advise patients on how to treat this common condition. NBA Update: Orlando’s Aaron Gordon Deals with Fractured Foot Like a Champ

Rookie Aaron Gordon, following a stellar performance and meteoric rise at Arizona State, was drafted by the Orlando Magic as the fourth overall first-round pick. The 19-year-old had led his team to three title games in a row, became one of 30 finalists nominated for Naismith College Player of the Year, and was named the 2013 Male Athlete of the Year by USA Basketball. But just a few months after his NBA debut, Gordon got sidelined with a fractured foot. As a rising star from a basketball family–his father, brother, and sister all played college and pro ball–it would have been understandable for Gordon to feel discouraged, even defeated by this ill-timed injury. But Gordon’s attitude, and his treatment and recovery process, could help other foot injury sufferers meet their goals.

Last week, runners in Buffalo, New York mourned the passing of Tim Donnelly, the director of the annual Turkey Trot. It saddens us to see him go so soon. The 61-year-old died unexpectedly of a heart attack, despite being an avid runner. One of the cruelties of life is that we can’t extend our lifespans beyond what our genetic coding has written, or predict the unexpected. We can, however, improve our odds for longevity by developing smart lifestyle habits to become the strongest, most resilient individuals we can be. NFL News: 49ers’ Linebacker Patrick Willis Out with a Toe Injury

One of the biggest stories in the NFL this week is that 49ers’ linebacker Patrick Willis has been put back on the IR due to a toe injury. He’s been out for the last three games, but he admitted that his toe pain has been a serious issue since a Week Six game against the Rams. “It’s been something that I’ve been dealing with for a while now,” he told “I could argue and say, ‘Should I have done it earlier before it got as bad as it did, before I hurt it worse than I did in the Rams game?’ I could, but I’m not going to, because I felt like at the time, I’ve always been a fighter and always been a competitor.” He added that the toe injury will require surgery.
